Dorothea ''Dottie'' Louise Poland-Goodwin

Dorothea \u0027\u0027Dottie\u0027\u0027 Louise Poland-Goodwin, 72, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003. Dottie was born August 19, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up and raised her family in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was salutatorian for her graduating class at Madison High School. She moved to Sedona in 1971. Upon moving to Sedona, she and her late husband Bill opened several businesses in Sedona including the Arrowhead Trading Post and Memory Lane Dinner Theater, which were in operation until 1985. Dottie and Bill started the Red Rock Round Dancers and taught round dancing for many years and were founders of the State Teachers Association of Round Dancing. There were active members of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce. In 1976, they moved to a ranch on the Verde River in Cottonwood and commuted to their businesses in Sedona. Several years later, in 1990 she married Joe Goodwin, her devoted and loving husband of 12 years. They opened an antique store in Pine, Arizona that operated for 6 years while they still had their home in Cottonwood. Together, they enjoyed traveling to find wonderful antiques and collectables for their shop. Upon their retirement, new adventures followed including becoming HAM radio operators and traveling in their RV. Dottie was a member of the Verde Valley Amateur Radio Association and the Verde Valley Computer Club and had offices in both organizations. She was a past member of Toastmasters. Dottie was an entrepreneur, an artist , a poet, a writer, had a thirst for learning, loved to sing, enjoyed traveling and camping with their Ham Sam group and was also a joy to be around. Everyone always commented on her warm, friendly smile and how she could brighten a room. She was a loving, devoted and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Joe Goodwin; daughter Mary Hansen, her husband Tim, and their son, Ryan of Flagstaff; daughter Candy Olesek, her husband Stan and their children Carrie Powell and Brian Olesek of Clawson, Michigan; son Skip Elliott and his son Johnny, of Juneau, Alaska. She also has two great-grandchildren who reside in Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 10 in the Mountain View United Methodist Church at 10 AM.
