Edith Allyne Fisher

Mrs. Edith Allyne Fisher, 88, of Clarkdale, AZ entered into eternal bliss on August 19, 2005. She was born at Mancos, CO on September 9, 1016 to Robert and Mary Connor. Allyne, as she was usually called, grew up on the family ranch near Breen, CO. She learned to care for and about animals. An arduous task she often mentioned enjoying was carrying lambs from the farther herding areas to the main ranch on her Dad\u0027s favorite horse \u0027Silverheels\u0027. She was also quite a good shot with her .22 rifle. Allyne attended Squeaky-Squawk grade school, but was unable to continue on the high school. She made up for that by becoming a self-well-educated voracious reader with a strong sense of self-worth and a fine sense of humor. In 1932, Edith married Melvin Fisher, a widower with four children, who soon became \u0027her\u0027 children. Family and church became the primary foci of her life. As the calendars moved, Melvin and Edith added ten more children to the God-blessed family on the little dry farm at Breen. She continued to enjoy riding, always had a book at hand, and developed interests in gardening, music, and traveling whenever an opportunity arose. Whenever she was out of town on a Sunday, she enjoyed delivering to her pastor a bulletin from the church she had attended, to show that she had been a \u0027good girl\u0027 and gone to church. Always at the core of her life were church and family, which led to another career choice, nursing. Allyne worked for several years as a Nursing Assistant; prior to her retirement in 1981, she had completed all the academic and practical requirements for licensing as a practical nurse. In 1981, Melvin and Edith moved to Clarkdale, AZ, where Melvin died in 1986. Edith continued to live in Clarkdale, finding strength in family, friends, and the Verde Valley Church of the Nazarene. A devout Christian, she kept her Bible at the center of her personal library. Mrs. Fisher is survived by an aunt, Ethel Barger of Durango, CO; sisters Dora Hunt of Hesperus, CO and Roberta Hunt of Cortez, CO; brother Bryan Conner (Linda) of Hesperus, CO; daughters Patti Cordell of Flora Vista, NM; Olela Jones of Hesperus, CO: Yvonne Utzat (Gunther) of Flagstaff, AZ; Marna (Rev. Bill) Jones of Phoenix, AZ; Sandy Randolph of Farmington, NM; Shirley (Don) Sanchez of Walsenburg, CO; and Hazel Robbins of Cottonwood, AZ. She is also survived by sons Lawrence (Karen) Fisher of McKenney, VA; Don (Lu) and Marty Fisher of Cottonwood, AZ; forty-five grandchildren, seventy-five great-grandchildren, and forty-one great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Conner; sisters Ida Holley, Blanche Phillips and Mae West; brothers Albert and Robert Conner; daughter Eula Butler; sons David, Edgar, and John Fisher; grandchildren Leanne Rush and Michael Robbins; great grandson Danny Cordell; and her beloved companion Lucky-pup. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 25 from 1-5 P.M. at the Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Ave, Cottonwood. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27 at 11 A.M. at the Verde Valley Church of the Nazarene, 1710 S. Hwy 260, Cottonwood. Internment will be at Crestview Cemetery in Durango, CO.
