Edwin E. Lant

In loving memory of Edwin E. Lant, 89, of Cottonwood, Arizona who passed away on May 8, 2003. He was widowed in 1992 after 37 years of being happily married to Carolyn Louden of Moline, Illinois. Ed\u0027s daughter, Jacqueline Collins preceded him in death in December 2002. He is survived by his daughters Janice Campbell of Madison, Indiana and Judith Axel and son-in-law , John, of Millville Delaware and four granddaughters, Cheri Lizzio of Mason, Ohio, Julie Solack of Ashburn, Virginia, Candace Worcester of Madison, Indiana, and Allison Rink of Bloomington, Indiana. In addition, he had nine great-grandchildren, Jenny, Katie and Tom Lizzio, Andrew and Carolyn Solack, Jordan and Kassey Worcester, and Sydney and Quincey Rink. Ed was blessed with a long and happy life. He was born on August 17,1913 to Samuel Charles and Lulu Mae Lant of Media, Illinois. He remained close to his seven brothers and four sisters and their extended families and was affectionately \u0027\u0027Uncle Ed\u0027\u0027 to numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country including Kathy and Pete McIntyre of Clarkdale, Arizona. He was in the Army and served his country from 1942-1945 as a high speed radio and encryption operator in the European and Pacific theaters including Normandy and Okinawa aboard the USS Ancon. Ed was employed by John Deere Planter and Plow Works for 37 years where he retired as foreman in 1974. He and Carolyn sold their home of many years in Moline, Illinois and moved to Cottonwood in 1975 where they were among the first 50 to break ground in Verde Village. Over his long life he had many interests including boating, photography, hunting and fishing, gardening, hiking and for a short period of time, he and Carolyn even took up square dancing. His love of comic strips and crossword puzzles kept his mind and wit sharp and he never lost his wonderful sense of humor. He was a man of quiet faith and integrity and his family and friends will miss his caring and generous heart, his quick witted \u0027\u0027one-liners\u0027\u0027 and that special twinkle in his eyes. Following a private military service at Valley View Cemetery, a celebration of his life was held on Thursday, May 15th at the One In Christ Church at 11:00 A.M.
