Lois J. Hook

Lois Jean Hook, of Cornville left us to go to meet her Lord and Savior on April 13, 2015. Lois was born on May 17, 1935 on a farm near McLeansboro, IL to Dwight and Madlin Cotter. Her parents and her brother David preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Rollin, son Paul, daughter Cheryl and husband Danny Benton, Sister-in-law Linda Cotter and nephews Brian and Michael Cotter, and nephews and nieces by marriage. Lois married Rollin on June 9, 1956 following his graduation from Purdue University. She was a graduate of Edison High School, East Gary, IN. Prior to Marriage Lois attended the Gary (IN) Business College while employed at the Inland Steel Co. which is where she met Rollin. They took residence in Midland, MI where both were employed at the Dow Chemical Co. until April 1957 when Rollin was called to active duty with the U. S. Air Force to attend Pre-Flight training at Lackland AFB, TX. They then moved in May 1957 to OH for assignment to Wright-Patterson AFB. In March 1967 Rollin took employment with Armco Steel Corp. later known as Armco Inc., then AK Steel. Lois was very active in community affairs in OH during the 42-year time span, which ended in the move to AZ in 1999. She participated in the organizations in which her children were active. She was a Girl Scout leader, PTA President, worked in Booster Club events. Lois worked as a secretary in the Mad River Township school system. She was employed by Manpower and provided secretarial services to numerous Dayton businesses including a detachment of the British Air Force at W-P AFB. In 1993 Lois was elected to the new six-seat city council of the newest city in the State of OH, Riverside. On moving to AZ in May 1999 Lois became the consummate volunteer. Her activities included organizing thirteen consecutive Cornville annual Easter Egg Hunts (20012014), worked organizing many of the Cornville Community Association (CCA) events and on getting raffle prizes for events, organized annual Pot Luck Dinners, organized the annual Chili Cook Off events at Windmill Park, served in the CCA Board, served as the go to contact representative of Yavapai Co. for scheduling event reservations at Windmill Park, served in a number of capacities in the annual Toys-For-Tots program working from September thru December even playing Mrs. Clause at the parties, assisted with the annual Verde Valley Water Festival (20092013), worked for many years on behalf of the Canyon Moon Theatre getting ushers and workers for the events. Volunteered with Kids Against Hunger (KAH) packaging meals for kids in Haiti (and locally). She served with several of the Verde Valley Pink Heals fund raising events. Lois also served on two P.I.E Committees, in 2006 promoting a MUHS Bond Levy and in 2009 promoting School Overrides. Everything Lois did was for the benefit of other people. Had you asked her how she was able to accomplish so much she would say, "It was not me, but it was all my willing, dedicated, hard working volunteers." Lois received a number of awards and recognitions for her service over the years, namely: Community Service Award On Behalf Of Mingus Union High School, November 2006; for Volunteer Service, 19th Annual Verde Valley Pride day, May 2007, Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce; Special Recognition, 2010 Bright Heart Nominee, Outstanding Volunteer of The Year; Yavapai County "Unsung Hero" Award, March 2013. No doubt Lois\u0027 accomplishment is as a mother, in seeing her son and her daughter grow up to become fine caring persons who also spent years serving others.
