Susan Jean Zeck

Susan Jean Zeck passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2015 surrounded by her family from complications brought on by a long-standing autoimmune disorder. Susan was born September 6, 1951 to Thomas and Patricia Cox in Brookings, Oregon where she was active in the local 4-H and earned a reputation as an award-winning horse-woman. She graduated Brookings-Harbor High School in 1969. On September 7, 1969 she married Sherrod Zeck who was a returning Navy Vietnam Veteran visiting his family in Brookings looking for a place to settle down. The pair quickly settled down and was blessed with two children. In 1982 the family relocated to Southern California for better economic and educational opportunities. During this time Susan worked as an accounts payable manager in the manufacturing sector. She also enjoyed an active lifestyle that included hiking; tending her lush vegetable garden, travelling around the American Southwest and spending cherished time with friends and family. Favorable circumstances allowed Susan and Sherrod to retire ahead of schedule and in 2000 they made their new home in Cottonwood, Arizona. Susan was the quintessential "Suzy Homemaker" happily sewing, quilting, baking delicious deserts and maintaining a spotless house of which her family greatly appreciated her talents and immeasurable contributions. In her retirement years, she looked forward to monthly Bunco with her lady friends and sewed cough-pillow for surgery patients at Verde Valley Medical Center, along with helping out any neighbor who needed a favor. She will be remembered for her green thumb, generosity, gentle spirit, creativity in the kitchen and on the sewing machine, kindness toward others and most of all her smile and genuine laugh. She will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know her. Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sherrod Zeck; son Samuel Zeck (Rhonda) of Los Angeles, CA; daughter Shelly Miller (Thomas) of Anaheim, California, sister Peggy Evans (Bud) of Molalla, Oregon; brother Philip Cox of Brookings Oregon, three amazing grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including Kathy (McCourt) Dichter of Brookings Oregon.
